The opening night of my 2024 tour is now close enough to touch, and I’m feeling excited and nervous in equal measure! There is always so much to do in the days running up to the start of the tour. But one thing that is always prepared well in advance, and something I always enjoy, is choosing my stage outfits.
There have been so many memorable outfits over the years. This black and silver velvet jumpsuit was HOT! Certain fabrics cling more than other’s and the proof is in the photos. I love a jumpsuit, although I find it very difficult finding the right size (I’m much bigger on the top than the bottom so always have to have them altered).
One of my favourite dresses of all time was this slinky red number. The moment I saw it in a store window in New York, I knew it would be coming home with me. I loved the way it fitted me so perfectly, and how fabulous I felt wearing it.
The blue ballgown I wore at my Christmas show was a definite fan favourite and I received so many compliments on this dress. The fitted waist and three quarter sleeve made this a classic.
Many of my outfits have been designed by Kay Heeley, who has designed for me for my upcoming 2024 tour. She first designed three outfits for my 2004 tour that led to an on-going relationship that now spans 20 years! Kay always makes sure that my outfits have the wow factor.
We’ll have an initial meeting in which I’ll set out my requirements. From those Kay will produce numerous designs drawings for me to choose from. Kay makes most of my outfits by hand, but sometimes I’ll choose an outfit that Kay will then adapt and alter for me. It’s important that each design not only looks fabulous, but is also made to stand up to the heavy duty wear and tear of quick changes night after night on tour.
I always like to start the show wearing a dress with the wow factor… and this year will be no different. I can’t wait for you to see this years opening outfit!
