My latest TV travel series ‘Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan’ is out now on Channel 5! Join me on my Japanese adventure in this four-part series as I travel across Japan on an epic adventure.
In the first episode I visit Tokyo, where I find myself in the sumo ring – in the most unflattering outfit! It’s then off for another challenge, eating noodles the Japanese way – with chopsticks – and a night out in a karaoke bar!
In the second episode I’ll be visiting the world’s first cafe staffed by robots, exploring the world of the ninja, and sampling some sake alongside Tokyo’s sensational sushi and a prawn cracker which was bigger than my head!
Episode three features Kyoto, a place of beautiful shrines and temples, atmospheric tea ceremonies and geishas dressed in exquisite kimonos. Arriving in the city via the super-fast bullet train, I’ll be exploring the city at a more sedate pace in a rikshaw before visiting the most stunningly beautiful bamboo forest.
In the last episode, I’ll be travelling to ‘Japan’s Kitchen’, Osaka. Arriving at this foodie favourite via a wooden train, complete with an on-board garden, I’ll be heading straight into the centre of the city, where the canals, neon lights and multicultural atmosphere of the downtown Dontonbori district are reminiscent of Manchester. Here I’ll be enjoying a food tour including some of the best katsu that Osaka has to offer, as well as a local sweet treat called a mochi.
